Edibles in Provincetown: What to Know Before You Buy
If you've ever walked past our shop at 220 Commercial Street and wondered what exactly goes into that gummy or chocolate bar on our menu — this one's for you.
Edibles are one of the most popular ways to consume cannabis, and for good reason. No smoke, no equipment, no learning curve. Just a product you eat or drink, in a dose that works for you. But there are a few things worth knowing before you buy — especially if it's your first time.
What Are Cannabis Edibles?
Cannabis edibles are food or drink products infused with THC, CBD, or both. At b\well's Provincetown dispensary, our edibles menu typically includes gummies, chocolates, mints, beverages, and more — each clearly labeled with dosage information so you know exactly what you're getting.
Unlike smoking or vaping, edibles don't deliver cannabis directly to your bloodstream through your lungs. Instead, they're processed through your digestive system, which changes both how long they take to kick in and how long the effects last.
How Long Do Edibles Take to Work?
This is the question we get most at the counter — and it's an important one. Most edibles take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect, depending on your metabolism, body weight, whether you've eaten recently, and your individual tolerance. The effects can last anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, significantly longer than smoking or vaping.
The takeaway: be patient. The most common mistake first-time edible users make is assuming the edible isn't working and taking more — only to feel both doses hit at once. Start low, wait the full two hours, and adjust from there.
Dosing: Start Low and Go Slow
In Massachusetts, recreational edibles are capped at 5mg of THC per serving — a regulation designed specifically to help new consumers ease in gradually. This is actually a helpful guardrail. A single 5mg serving is a great starting point for most people who are new to edibles or who have a lower tolerance.
For reference: 5–10mg is considered a mild to moderate dose for most people. 10–20mg is more substantial. Anything above that is territory for experienced consumers who know their tolerance well.
Our staff at b\well is always happy to talk through dosing with you — no judgment, no rush. It's one of our favorite conversations.
Types of Edibles You'll Find at b\well
Our edibles selection rotates regularly, but here's a general sense of what we carry:
Gummies are the most popular format — easy to dose, easy to share, and available in a wide range of flavors and formulations. Many brands offer options that lean toward relaxation, sleep, or a more energetic, uplifted feeling.
Chocolates are a classic for a reason. They tend to have a slightly slower onset than gummies due to fat content, but deliver a smooth, even effect for most people.
Mints and lozenges are discreet, fast-acting relative to other edibles, and low-calorie — a good option if you want something light.
Beverages are one of the newer frontiers in cannabis. THC-infused drinks — from sparkling waters to tonics — tend to have a faster onset than food-based edibles and are a great option for social settings.
Edibles vs. Smoking: What's the Difference?
Both deliver THC, but the experience is genuinely different. Smoking or vaping produces effects within minutes that typically taper off within 1–3 hours. Edibles take longer to begin but deliver a longer, often more body-focused experience. Many people who don't enjoy smoking find edibles much more comfortable and approachable.
Edibles are also a great option for people managing chronic pain, inflammation, sleep difficulties, or anxiety — the longer duration of effects means sustained relief rather than a shorter window.
A Note on Massachusetts Law
All cannabis products purchased in Massachusetts — including edibles — must be consumed within the state. Public consumption is prohibited; edibles should be enjoyed on private property where consumption is permitted. And as always, keep your products safely stored and out of reach of anyone under 21.
